Primary school setting great example for energy efficiency

Plympton St Maurice Primary School, Plymouth, caters for 4 to 11 year olds, with baby care, child care and pre-school facilities on the school site. The school commissioned IU Energy to specify and install state-of-the-art, energy-efficient LED lighting.

   1.  Salix Finance

IU Energy facilitated the school’s application for Salix Finance, ensuring the project met the necessary funding criteria, which included calculating the predicted energy and CO2 equivalent savings; %Return on Investment (ROI) and payback period.

IU Energy managed the Salix finance application process on behalf of the school, which minimised staff time spent on administration, allowing them to concentrate on running the school.

   2.  The Installation

IU Energy was happy to accommodate the school’s wishes to minimise disruption and scheduled the LED installation to take place over the Christmas holiday shut down.

   3.  Project Management

IU Energy project-managed the process to ensure work was completed to the agreed specification, within the allotted timeframe.

Upgrading to LED not only generated significant savings for the school (by reducing energy demand and minimising energy waste), but also improved lighting quality in the learning environment.

Additionally, the school has significantly enhanced its green credentials by taking the intelligent decision to upgrade to LED lighting. Becoming a greener school has set a great example to the children and parents in the school community.

“The lighting is exactly what we had hoped for and IU Energy’s support with the Salix funding application was invaluable. We are very pleased with the savings achieved as the extra money will go towards improving the school and investing in further measures to increase sustainability.

We enjoyed working with IU Energy and found them helpful, professional, efficient and willing to go the extra mile. We would definitely recommend IU Energy to other organisations looking for guidance on finance options and how to make energy savings and reduce their carbon footprint.”
