Cut Energy Use

Self-generation – gain up to 7.7% more profit

Capgemini obtained compelling evidence for this figure in 2018. They surveyed around 3,500 companies for the profit effect of renewable technologies.

In particular, these companies expressly increased self-generation by implementing an energy strategy.  Read their report in detail here.

Cut your energy use – the steps

Generally speaking, writing an energy strategy will give you direction.  That is to say, plan what to invest in and when. Make someone accountable for it.

Award-winning IU Energy is especially good at this, so by all means contact us. We’ll certainly be glad to help.

  1. In the first place, address employee behaviour. Indeed, this is a very effective way to drive mindset change. Contact us and we’ll send you our FREE guides to help you clarify how.
  2. Buy green electricity and green gas tariffs. Frequently an easy win if for instance, renewable technology isn’t an option.
  3. Even so, significantly reducing your grid energy use to its full potential will require technology investment.
  4. Carbon credits. A last resort, chiefly because it is regarded as cheating. In fact, it may not be available long-term.

On the positive side, self-generation cuts grid energy reliance and improves your profits in the long run.

In summary, relying on grid energy alone hurts your bottom line. Moreover, it increases your tax and carbon reporting load, not to mention climate change.

How is my carbon footprint calculated?

To clarify, your carbon footprint is measured in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e). The carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) allows the different greenhouse gases to be compared like-for-like against one unit of CO2. To explain, CO2e is calculated by multiplying the emissions of each of the six greenhouse gases by its 100 year global warming potential (GWP).

To summarise, your carbon footprint considers all six of the Kyoto Protocol greenhouse gases.

Award-winning IU Energy has clients across many sectors, many of whom we’re helping to reduce their carbon footprint. You’ll find we make it as easy as possible for you, as can be seen in our case studies.

As part of our standard service, we’ll also register your self-generation technologies with schemes like the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) and the Smart Export Guarantee.

Likewise, we may also be able to help you with competitive finance for efficient and renewable technologies.

Invest in renewable technologies. Usually you’ll see increased profits and in many cases you’ll be paid long-term income and benefit from tax incentives.
