Battery Storage – energy storage for businesses and domestic applications

In the first place, battery storage is now a mainstream technology, both with and without Solar PV.

To put it another way, this energy storage technology is for most businesses and houses. For many, it is one answer to maintaining a 24/7 electricity supply. Another key point is it provides a cost-effective source of electricity for charging electric vehicles.

Solar battery storage increases self-consumption by up to 80%+

Particularly when connected to new or existing Solar PV. In general, this will reduce your electricity bills by as much as 20%. That is to say, you can use solar battery storage during the day and discharge it at night.

What are the capacities?

Capacities for business energy storage vary from a few kW to multi MW capacities as can be seen in grid supplement applications. They are usually installed in modules so it is easy to add more. For instance, you can install additional storage as your business grows.

Which battery brand is best?

While it’s almost always possible to retrofit a battery storage system on an existing solar system, the cost and ease of doing so is heavily dependent on your current set up, including if your business takes single or three phase electricity, and the size of your inverter. It’s better to plan for this when installing your solar PV, or better still, fit it at the same time.

The general range for a solar battery’s useful lifespan is between 5 and 15 years. If you install a solar battery today, you will likely need to replace it at least once to match the 25 to 30-year lifespan of your Solar PV system, if you have one fitted.
