The Client

Situated in the South Devon village of South Huish, Court Barton Farm is a high-spec, new-build, domestic dwelling.

The Challenge

During August 2018, IU Energy was asked to propose for the supply, installation and commissioning of an Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP), to be installed in parallel with the construction of the dwelling.

The system is designed to provide both heating and hot water throughout the whole building as required and consequently had to be planned to operate on demand. The installation also needed to enable the client to receive financial support under the RHI scheme, in accordance with OFGEM requirements.

Drawings were provided via the architect and an initial site survey was carried out by IU Energy to produce the proposal. IU Energy had to liaise closely with the builder to ensure that the heating and hot water system integrated seamlessly and caused no delays to the building work.

The Solution

IU Energy supplied, installed and commissioned a 9kW LG heat pump at Court Barton Farm. The function of the system provides both heating and hot water throughout the whole building as required. The system design is based on heating and hot water demand as per the provided Preliminary SAP Report. The installation also enables the client to receive financial support under the RHI scheme, in accordance with OFGEM requirements.

The completed system includes –

  • 1 x LG 9kw monobloc heat pump, sundries, frames and interconnecting infrastructure
  • Supply and connection of a new 250L hot water cylinder
  • Plant room ancillaries and pipework
  • Heat meter
  • Heating circulation pump, control valves, pipework and connection to two manifold locations
  • Electrical connections to pre-fitted supplies

The heat pump was fitted outside, alongside the East side of the building. A concrete plinth was required to mount the ASHP. Pipework from the heat pump to the cylinder runs along the internal wall to minimise visual intrusion.

IU Energy commissioned, tested and demonstrated operation of all equipment and systems supplied and installed. Our standard service also included assistance to complete the RHI application form.

The Results

The entire system was delivered on-time, within budget and is projected to yield the following results –

  • Total cost benefit over seven years c. £11,832
  • Total annual cost benefit – c. £1,690
  • System Payback – 4.6 years
  • Projected Return on Investment % – 7.5
