Case Study – Landskerry Estate
♦ Landskerry Estate yearly tax-free income c .£20,000
♦ Locally sourced sustainable fuel
♦ 80% fuel savings
Built in 1984, Landskerry is a residence located in Chillaton, Devon. The estate comprises indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a joinery workshop, mechanics workshop and car museum.
All being heated expensively through oil, owner Carl Payne was keen to replace this with a more cost-effective heating solution.
A number of options were assessed but upgrading to a biomass system was a highly attractive option due to the Government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) Scheme, plus Carl’s membership of Dartmoor Wood Fuel Co-operative.
Dartmoor Wood Fuel Co-operative was set up as an Industrial Provident Society in 2009 by a group of like minded Dartmoor residents, each of who share a common interest in the environment and reducing the carbon footprint of their lifestyles on Dartmoor.
Their intention is to unlock the potential of a small woodland resource available locally, thus reducing the transportation of bio-energy within the region and improving the bio-diversity of the woods. Co-operative clients gain access to high quality wood fuel, saving up to 80% on their fuel bills.
A woodchip (Twinheat ME80) boiler was installed alongside an ETA SH60 log boiler. IU Energy linked these two boilers together in one system to
ensure maximum sustainability.
Carl is a member of the Dartmoor Woodfuel Co-Operative, who make delivery of Landskerry’s woodchips.
The biomass solution is kept regulated by a straight-forward ETA full control package.
Biomass is a cost-effective heating system, especially when compared to the oil boiler. We also installed a solar thermal system which generates more income for Carl.
Landskerry is making a yearly tax-free income of almost £20,000, comprising –
♦ £3,200 a year through the Government’s Feed-in-Tariff (for the solar PV system)
♦ £15-16,000 a year through the RHI scheme (for the biomass system)
“IU Energy have been such a great help. Very professional, nice guys and definitively know their stuff! They were focused on making sure I was getting the most out of my biomass system and making almost £20K a year extra in tax-free incentives has been well worth the investment – my heating is now also cheaper! I would recommend IU Energy to anyone wanting to install a biomass system.” Carl Payne.
