Truro Methodist Church
Truro Methodist Church is an active, lively and developing Christian church at the heart of the beautiful city of Truro, Cornwall.
Their worship life is varied and they offer a range of different worship styles and times throughout the week. The Church has a full programme of activities for people of all ages and an extensive outreach programme, working with the surrounding community.
Many people give up hours of their own time because they believe in what Truro Methodist Church is building. In addition to their many volunteers they have one full-time minister, two part-time pastoral assistants and two administrative assistants who are responsible for aspects of the ministry.
A reduction in energy costs or usage can make a significant difference to any organisation, and particularly a place of worship where profit is measured in the spiritual and personal development of people, rather than financial gain.
After a free, no-obligation review of Truro Methodist Church’s gas and electricity bills, we established that they were using a significant amount of energy at uncompetitive rates. We also discovered that they had been paying VAT at 20% rather than 5%, as a Charity.
As a committed community player, the Church also wanted to play their part towards being net-zero Carbon, so requested a green electricity tariff, whilst being mindful of costs.
In a market that’s always rising, the challenge is increasingly to protect your organisation from price
increases. In Truro Methodist Church’s case, our task was to save them money for three years on both their gas and electricity: No small request given market volatility. We also needed to seek a refund for overpaid VAT.
